New for Winter 2022/2023, the Leading Edge LE-v150 Storm is our toughest wind turbine yet, warranted to withstand winds up to 40m/s (100mph). This rugged and highly reliable vertical axis wind turbine is designed to provide power outputs of up to 200W for battery charging applications ranging from data comms and IOT to CCTV and datalogging (not for domestic use).
For use in locations where a traditional horizontal axis turbine simply couldn’t survive prolonged periods of storm force winds, the LE-v150 Storm is the 'LandRover Defender' of the small wind turbine world. It builds on the success of the LE-v150 Extreme currently powering industrial and research equipment in some of the harshest locations on earth - Antarctica, Greenland and Arctic Canada.
Where wind gusts to 45m/s (100mph) or temperatures drop down to -40degC, the LE-v150 Storm turbine is the wind turbine of choice. It features enhancements that reduce the stress and fatigue on the blades during prolonged periods of storm force winds.
Features include stainless steel blades, polycarbonate cowlings, blade load spreader plates and a black body to reduce the build-up of rime ice.
The LE-v150 Storm is available as a 12V, 24V and 48V DC wind turbine. Included are 5 x 70mm U-bolts (Stainless Steel) for side mounting to 50mm or 60mm OD pole.

Pure performance
The LE-v150 Storm wind turbine uses a proven ‘Savonious’ rotor design which gives silent and effective performance. Using the latest solid modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamic simulations, we have come up with an elegant ‘cross-ventilated’ rotor which provides good power conversion for a vertical axis wind turbine of this size.
This wind turbine will output 24W at 8m/s (17.8mph) with a peak output of 200W according to the power curve if sited correctly - read our siting advisory document.
The rotor is then coupled to our specially designed low inertia, zero ‘cogging’ axial flux permanent magnet alternator. Using Neodymium rare earth magnets, this alternator design has become one of the most field proven and effective alternators that is deployed across the entire range of Leading Edge wind turbines!
Build quality & durability
The LE-v150 Storm wind turbine is manufactured from high quality stainless steel which has been laser processed, CNC machined, hard anodized and powder coated to ensure that the wind turbine will withstand harsh environments.
The wind turbine features a tri-blade locking mechanism design for superior stability in the most extreme weather environments. The adapted mid-support bracket provides increased stability where the highest force occurs.
The sealed bearings are fully lubricated, so no greasing or maintenance is required. All of the fixings are manufactured from A4 stainless steel.
Absolute safety
Unlike any other small wind turbine you will find, the LE-v150 Storm′s rotor design will limit its RPM automatically. If anything comes into contact with the rotating blades, it will be pushed away from the rotor rather than being caught by the spinning and causing damage.
Protecting your batteries from over-charging
To protect the batteries from over-charging, a charge controller configured to 'diversion' mode is connected to your battery bank. It operates as an 'overflow' for the battery bank – bleeding excess energy to a dump load when the batteries are full. This means that the turbine is always running – and not being switched on and off as is the case with other charge control methods.
